Blog Post #2: Health Equity Sources

      In my WP3, I will be writing about undocumented immigrants and their right to health equity.

Challenges with Undocumented Immigrants in the United States

The University of Alabama at Birmingham posted in article in January, 2020 discussing the challenges that undocumented immigrants face in the United States. Some of the issues listen include health care policies that were enforced to not include undocumented immigrants. The article goes in-depth on how this not only affects the undocumented immigrants, but it also hurts the general public. The article examines the issue with HIV medical care for lower socioeconomic undocumented immigrants and much more

Are the Undocumented Deserving? Health Workers' Views of Immigrants in Alabama

The second article that I will primarily use is this one published by Anna Bianchi, Kathryn S Oths, and Kari White. The article presents the health worker's point of view on whether undocumented immigrants deserve to receive equal health care. I believe this article will be very helpful in arguing the humanity and moral obligations to giving undocumented immigrants health equity.

    These are excellent articles with expanded viewpoints on the topic, directly from the medical side of things. Enforced to not include undocumented immigrants... I hate that that's a thing.

WP4: The Cruelty of Slavery

The topic that I will be choosing for WP4 is the re-evaluation of the cruelty and violence of slavery. The Southern states were shockingly violent to their slaves, with "disciplinary" and cruel tactics, such as lynching, whipping, rape, etc. However, in most schools, while it is true that it is taught to lower maturity students, slavery is often depicted more as an economical issue with human right bearings. The severity of the inhumanity of slavery is seldom taught to children. While it may not be an option to teach younger children, creating mandatory lessons and an emphasis on the violence to high school and college students would be extremely beneficial.      Slavery is a large part of our history whether we like it or not. Thousands of communities are still recovering from the aftermath and effects that it had on their relationships with other people, culture, and their socioeconomic status.
